About Us

And now a word from director Dylan Tuccillo:

“The Motion Studio is greater than the sum of its parts, but its parts are pretty great too. I carefully pulled together a team of animators, directors, illustrators, editors, designers, and creative directors to create stunning visuals for our clients.

Our team members come from advertising agencies, film production studios, and start-ups. Together, we have decades of experience. Our clients are varied: they come from the worlds of public health, technology startups, non-profit organizations, and the e-Learning space.”

The Concept is Key

At Motion Studio we believe that the concept is key. A good video needs to start with a great concept, and it all flows from there. That’s why we don’t rush through the development phase; we don’t tape things together to get them out the door.

Before any footage is shot or a frame is animated, we carefully go over the idea of the video to make sure we’re creating the end product that you want—an end product that is engaging, that makes sense, and that has something to say.

We pour over the script, the storyboard, and the designs. Only when the concept is strong do we move ahead.

Small For a Reason

The Motion Studio is boutique, meaning small, meaning we don’t have hundreds of employees and a CTO and a kombucha bar. We’re a small team and thank goodness, because small is a good thing.

Why is small good? When we worked at big advertising agencies, we noticed that a company with a large structure and dozens of employees tended to be restrictive. The focus wasn’t on creative, engaging ideas—the focus was getting a video completed at a professional standard, and not to rock the boat too much in the process. There was a rigid pipeline for how a video was finished—like a factory.

At Motion Studio, we think structure is important, but we built a structure—a way of working—that allows for innovative ideas. Practically speaking, this involves a more collaborative process in the development phase. It’s a way of working that couldn’t work with a team of dozens of people.

And an added bonus of a smaller team? The budgets are lower. Much lower. It turns out, if you have dozens of people working on a video, things get very expensive without much added value to the end product. In fact, as far as we’ve seen, too many cooks in the kitchen often results in a very bland meal.

That’s why, in our experience, small is good.

How it Started

The Motion Studio was started by creative director Dylan Tuccillo. Dylan worked at start-ups and advertising agencies for several years and produced live action and animated videos for top brands.

While he enjoyed working for bigger companies, he began to think about creating a small studio—how a small studio, with the right team, could produce content better than the agencies, at a fraction of the price.
